Standard Bank | Taste Tomorrow Series
Designing professional banking experiences that move beyond the room.
The Standard Bank Taste Tomorrow Professional Banking Event Series was developed as a lead-generation and client engagement platform for Standard Bank Professional Banking, created to reach emerging professionals at a pivotal stage in their personal and professional lives.
The starting point was a clear commercial need: how could Standard Bank introduce more young professionals into its Professional Banking ecosystem at a time when banking relationships had become more fluid, competitive and lifestyle-driven?
Rather than waiting until these clients were already established in their careers, the opportunity was to engage them earlier, as they were moving from study, training and early professional development into the next phase of their lives.
The concept was built around a simple strategic idea: give guests a taste of what comes next.
This meant creating an experience that introduced the lifestyle, service, guidance and professional network that Standard Bank Professional Banking could support as these young professionals began making more considered decisions around their careers, finances and future growth.
Engineering, medicine and law were identified as strong audience segments because these professions often involve extended periods of study, specialist training, articles, internships, community service or professional development. These were not simply recent graduates. They were emerging professionals already invested in their futures and approaching a stage where banking, wealth, lifestyle and career decisions would become increasingly important. This made the audience both highly specific and highly relevant: guests were not only beginning their careers, they were stepping into industries where long-term financial planning, lifestyle decisions and professional networks would quickly become more important.
Hosted at The Pencil Club in Umhlanga, the series created an elevated environment that reflected ambition, progress and professional growth.
For the engineering edition, Suvarna Maharaj of Arup Group shared insight into the Umhlanga Arch project, giving the evening direct relevance to innovation, development and local professional excellence. For the medical professionals edition, Dr Sandile Tshabalala created a tailored point of connection for guests within the healthcare sector.
Each event was designed to make the audience feel recognised, not simply invited.
The venue created an aspirational setting.
The speakers gave each room specific relevance. The hospitality created a sense of occasion. The professional LinkedIn portraits gave attendees a practical asset for their working lives, while also creating a natural follow-up opportunity for the Standard Bank Professional Banking sales team after the event.
The 360-degree photo booth added a real-time social layer, with branded content sent directly to guests for organic sharing while the experience was still active. This allowed the event to travel through guests’ own professional and social networks in a way that felt natural rather than forced.
The result was a professional banking series that moved beyond traditional networking.
